Second Grade August Newsletter
Welcome Back!
Please bring a backpack everyday. You may want to bring a snack to eat during our first recess. Remember to get plenty of sleep at night, eat a good breakfast, and come to school by 8 o’clock. When arriving at school, make sure to walk to your class line and line up. There is no recess play time before school.
Open Court Reading
The first reading unit in Open Court is called Sharing Stories. We will be reading stories about children who love to share and read stories.
We will continue to blend words, go over high frequency words, and vocabulary words. Comprehension tests for each Open Court story will be on Thursdays. Please help your child to read at least 15 minutes a night.
Math
The first chapter in math is on addition. Please review addition flashcards with your child. It is very important that they have the addition math facts memorized.
Homework
Please have your child complete each page of the homework in pencil-unless other wise stated in the directions to color using crayons. Homework packets are due Friday morning. The first week of school your child will have a complete homework packet. The second week of school your child will be given some of the week’s homework on Monday. The rest of the week’s homework is found on our second grade website: http://pg2ndgrade.educatorpages.com
Please refer to the website every week for the additional weekly homework.
Spelling
Spelling tests are given on Fridays. Additional homework on our website will help you study for the test on Friday.
